August worked as a farm hand for William Schlamann and E. E. Gelhaus. In 1918, he began farming the Lutz family farm. He continued to farm the family farm until he retired in 1981. He entered the Bethesda home in Webster in 1991. While living in Webster, August served as Day County commissioner for two years, was a member of Minnesota Valley Breeders Association (where he served as president for 8 years), served on the Community Oil Company board of directors and was president of that company. He also held many offices in the Webster United Methodist Church. |
